archaeology concerns itself with the study of human history through excavation of sites and analysis of artifacts.   the spirit of research that drives archaeologists to seek out the earliest, the predecessor, the origin, the first of something, the first of anything - yields a compelling sideshow that is often an imaginative and entertaining rumination. in a way, archaeologists are writers of historical fiction, weaving stories around objects that they find, hypothesizing and conjecturing how humans lived long ago.
