this site is dedicated to my deceased father and my very much alive mother. both are loving, significant influences in my life. my dad was an artist and art teacher. he loved art, loved life - food, soccer, wine, painting, people. my mom is an artist craftsperson. she has always made things. quilts, clothes, carpets, jam, prints. growing up our house was filled with art, artbooks, art materials, handmade things, objects from faraway countries, works of art from artist friends. both parents instilled in me the love of anything handmade. i have immeasurable gratitude to them both for passing on the world of art to me.
i've been painting full time and surviving from selling my paintings for 30 years. i am fifty years old. i started when i was 20. a good friend/teacher of mine, michael jolliffe, introduced a big shot toronto gallery dealer to me when i was a 2nd year art student at concordia university in montreal. the gallery dealer loved my paintings and put me in a group show a few months later. she sold 3 paintings and gave me a cheque for $900 dollars. this was 1981. i felt rich. i still feel rich but not because i have a huge bank account - i feel rich and fortunate to live in the world of art, the world of painting. i love painting. painting is therapy, ecstasy, suffering, celebration, fragile, invincible, prayer, meditation, heaven and hell. it's a great life. thanks mom and dad.
