eye's great-grandfather chill was married to a woman named dot.  dot was soft-spoken,  cooked like a chef, sewed like a seamstress, could shoot coyotes dead from a hundred metres.  local folk talked of dot's skill,  her shooting prowess, nominated her for sheriff of crows nest pass. dot accepted the position,  first woman to do so. one day a stranger came to town, drank too much, held up the bank. dot came out onto the porch of the sheriff's office as the stranger was about to leave. he was smoking a cigarette, holding two sacks of cash. dot said, "where you think you're goin"? the stranger stopped, looked up at dot and laughed, "i'm goin' south sweetheart, wanna join m-"  before he finished, dot drew her pistol, took 3 shots straight from the hip. first one blew the cigarette right out of the stranger's mouth, second and third shots ripped the money sacks from his hands.  from that point on dot was known as deadeye dot.
