a few years ago i sent a question to several of my friends.  the question was,  what does the phrase we are all one mean to you?  here are a few of the responses:

It could be interpreted differently depending on the context in which the phrase is used but on its own out of the blue I would have to liken it to my feelings I used to get as a kid about being both a microcosm as well as a macrocosm of the universe.Basically we are all a part of a whole and therfore more or less the same on the large scale.

i deeply believe that we are all one. we are, you know. every being, every molecule, every wavelength of energy, every breath in, every breath out. transcending into the reaches of our understanding, deep into our psyches, and outward as far as we dream and beyond. we are all part of the fabric of life, and life is a part of all of us. and every action causes an equal and opposite reaction. karma. this certainty shapes and guides me.

In answer to your question "we are all one", it doesn't mean anything to me.
It sounds like some new age mantra or a tattoo that some over the hill rock star would have
on his dick.

I think that to distinguish yourself from someone else is just a game. A necessary cognitive game of world-ordering and self-recognition.  We all go through the same emotions but in response to different triggers and in varying degrees.  We stack our priorities and interests in a series of cubbyholes.  It's based on cultural and biographical factors but also on self-determination.  Some areas are more rigorously self-determined then there are others in which exhaustion or biographical acceptance lets the pattern fall as it came.  I think though, that underlying this, we are all just variations on the same theme.

what is yours is mine and what is mine is mine.  how is that?
ok, here's the serious answer;  'we are all one' means that
life-force, energy or spark of dynamism which is animating my body is the
same which is animating your body.  beyond all the multiple differences of
color, creed, gender, size or whatever, we are all of one source.
