writing, thinking, talking are interrelated by language but all employ the use of language in divergent ways. when i write i try to access the nano second before my thoughts are formed into compos mentis - down to earth, common sensical language. often i write streaming thoughts, text written spontaneously with little review or correction. a demanding and rigorous process, it solicits the present tense, an instantaneous translation of my own images and thoughts, not governed by logic or rationality, instead: listening to cadence, rhythm, playful allusions, astute accidents.
as a painter, a comparison can be made between gestural brushwork and fine, detailed #1 hoghair brushwork. streaming thoughts is gestural brushwork. a gesture reveals quickness, condensed energy.
a gesture can be viewed over and over, at times seen as bold...with a self-confidance that borders on impudence, at times seen as vulnerable...with a fragility that reveals a silken acuity.
